Employees at Individual Contributor (IC) level are usually dreadful of meetings because they usually consider their precious time to be spent (or wasted) on meetings. Often time, I’ve seen some meetings are just downright bad. I am not saying all meetings are bad, but some are really bad. Here are 10 signs on how you can detect inefficient meetings.

1.0. No agenda

This is probably the most obvious one that most blogs, Reddit posts, or some of your coworkers or your leadership cite at least once. Nobody is clear on what will be discussed during the meeting. Meetings are scheduled, but there is nothing much to talk about. People just sit there, drawing a blank on what’s purpose of this meeting, which leads to the second sign.

2.0. No clear outcome

Every meeting should have a clear outcome and needs to start with “why?” Is there a meeting simply because the hosts need to prove they are doing something worthwhile, or is the meeting really there to serve some common good purposes? At the end of the meeting, there should be some goals being…
